Executive Summary

Overview
Tanadgusix Corporation (TDX) is an Alaska Native village corporation with headquarters on St. Paul Island and in Anchorage, Alaska. TDX has more than 20 subsidiary companies in sectors including tourism, fisheries, hotels, environmental services, and energy. TDXNet, LLC—the technology subsidiary of TDX—provides information technology (IT) infrastructure services such as security, networking, business applications, and remote connectivity to TDX subsidiary companies. In addition, TDXNet markets managed IT services to small and mid-size organizations.

Barriers
When TDXNet was spun off from TDX in 2003, it faced a number of daunting challenges. TDX’s IT infrastructure was not centrally managed or standardized, which hampered productivity and made it difficult to roll out enterprise tools across the company. The desktop environment featured a mishmash of consumer-level protection products that frequently failed to protect end users from Trojans and other malware. Spam volume drained productivity by consuming employee and IT staff time.

The Solution
Working with Symantec Gold Partner Advanced Internet Security Inc. (AIS, www.advintsec.com), the IT team at TDXNet moved aggressively to transform its infrastructure. They deployed the following Symantec software products:
• Symantec Protection Suite Enterprise Edition to intercept spam and guard desktops and laptops with anti-malware, firewall, and intrusion protection
• Symantec Backup Exec to protect vital corporate data and quickly recover deleted or corrupted information
• Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery Server Edition to protect critical servers in the data center and ensure business continuity in the case of server failure
• Symantec Ghost Solution Suite to allow IT staff to rapidly reimage corrupted desktops and laptops and save time

Benefits
A Total Operational and Economic Impact (TOEI™) analysis by Alchemy Group found that Symantec software and AIS professional services have produced tangible business value for TDX. Actual and projected savings totaling $2.6 million from January 2009 through December 2011 were found in the following five areas:
